Equine Industry

Transactions in the equine industry do not usually pose any additional peculiar contractual requirements other than those that are typical for the sale of rural land. That is of course unless bloodstock are being sold with the property. In that event it is important to ascertain full details of the bloodstock being sold through the New Zealand Racing conference. Mares that are in foal should have been pregnancy tested at 42 days and vet certificates provided. It is common for studs to provide a live foal guarantee to owners, but in most cases these are not transferable to any purchaser. Therefore the purchaser accepts the risk in not receiving a live foal guarantee or completes the purchase of the bloodstock once the foals have been born.
