Drystock

Depending on location, a TB free warranty may be included in the agreement. TB is not widespread in New Zealand but certain areas do have outbreaks from time to time.

Weed control can be a major issue for drystock farms with both ragwort and thistle presenting a major problem for the purchaser, as settlement looms. Weed control clauses may need to be specifically included in the agreement.

Water is becoming a bigger issue every year. One impact on water flow which is often underestimated is a recently planted pine forest higher in the catchment. The other impact is irrigation upstream, drawing large volumes of water from subterranean sources.
